Everyone was born with independent thought

Pondered by Nat 2 months ago

I just wonder why parking attendants don’t realise this.

Like the guy last night who was ALREADY writing us a ticket when we arrived back at our car 4 MINUTES too late and who, when we explained we were sorry and on our way, said ’sorry guys, I’ve still gotta do it.’

The ability for humans to think for ourselves and apply our judgement to overarching rules is vital to making us who we are. I can’t understand anyone who actively chooses to give up this fundamental part of themselves.

Organisations who expect employees to follow the rulebook to the word and NOT apply their own thoughts to decision making processes are both fairly corrupt and severely disadvantaging themselves.

The amount of money the parking warden organisation has to spend on ‘educating’ the public about how nice they really are after making us all hate them by doing stupid things like the above, far outweighs the money they would lose for NOT ticketing people who are under ten minutes late.

If you break the law you pay the price. You’re lucky he didn’t drag you off for obstructing an officer. You know I would’ve done that - if it was me in the leather boots. Oh yeah baby!!

Here in New York I’ve grown up with the knowledge that once their pen starts writing the ticket, they are not allowed to stop. I don’t know what kind of regulations there are (is there a master ticket counter somewhere who makes sure there are no ticket numbers out of synch?), but that was ALWAYS the answer my dad was given in the past. It didn’t matter what our excuse was, how unfair it seemed, or how sympathetic the “meter maid” was. It sounds like maybe a universal rule…

I’m afraid the ‘you break it - you pay’ rule has to apply here.

MInd you well though, I agree with your general comment - it’s just not appropriate in this circumstance.

In general, the people you describe are thought of by me as “jobsworths”. That is, they often excuse theour behaviour with the comment ‘it’s more than my job’s worth to (fill in your own request here)’.

I’m sure everyone has an example; in fact, why noy solicit them here, then everyone could have a good laugh.

    My personal favourite . . . .

A radio talk back host who had read the news and weather, which included the phrase ‘the current downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, will continue throughout the day’. A ‘listener’ had called in and asked if the host had looked out the window recently as it was a beautiful sunny, hot day with not a cloud in the sky. The reply .. Listen sonny, I read what they give me or they get someone else to do my job. If the bit of paper says it’s raining it’s raining!

ha ha miles. We were very pleasant. I only rant when im not face to face.

Claire paper?!? what’s that? our things are electronic here!

Yup i guess about the job worth thing. I would suggest getting a better job
