And people who complain about tax bore me. A lot of people have been complaining about tax recently and tie it into things like rising petrol prices (i.e we should have a tax cut to cover the costs of increased petrol prices that aren’t actually caused by tax, but by the fact that we are either running out of oil or that the oil companies are merrily restricting oil supply to boost profits)

I don’t understand the tax system and I think some of the biggest loud mouths understand it less than me, because one moment they want to pull from an unlimited source of funds to provide free and real-time health care to all, and the next they demand a tax cut.

Feel free to double or triple my taxes if that means that every child in NZ grows up happy and healthy with a good education and a decent chance at life. My quality of life is not dependent on me being luckier than others, it would, however, be improved if I could go to sleep at night knowing that everyone around me has had enough to eat.

Halve my taxes if you’re just going to spend it on overpriced consultants and government milkers who dip into the money pot with no flutters of conscience. You people need to seriously question your career choices.

I don’t care so much that people abuse the benefit system as long as there is one for people who really need it. I wish that they wouldn’t but I have learned that everyone is different and either our culture or human nature leads to some people exploiting anything given the chance.

Feel free to tax me more the more I earn. It wont stop me from wanting to earn more. I’m sure it feels unfair to some degree, but so is life and count your lucky stars you are in a position to earn a large income. It didn’t just happen because you were smarter than the next guy.

What I’m trying to say is just because it’s an election year and we all turn our brains to government stuff for the first time in 3 years… Don’t focus on tax.

Tax is boring. It’s a fact of life. What isn’t fact is what it could be spent on, and those are the real election issues.
