Joining the iPhone Revolution

Pondered by Nat over two years ago

So yesterday I bought an iPhone. I’ve been putting it off for a while in the hopes they will invent a pink one, but in the end, the practicality outweighed the aesthetics.

I’m not normally one for gadgets and the major benefits driving the change were the Vodafone iPhone plan (which is cheaper than my current plan AND includes data), the fact that unlike my pink phone, I can check email on the go, and it just doesn’t LOOK good these days to use a normal cellphone ;)

My flatmates disagree and took great joy showing me this picture last night:

iPhone vs rock

You have been assimilated, bwahahaha!!! Welcome.

Conveniently, The Register has a story today on the ten best apps (and worst two but whatever):

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/05/25/stupid_and_smart_iphone_apps/

Personally, the ones I use most are:

BookShelf – I’ve now read literally dozens of books on this thing
TwitterFon – I’ve tried paid ones, but I still like this free app
ShoppingList – simple and to the point. No more paper lists!
AccuFuel – at $1.29 it’s cheaper than a notebook&pen, and does pretty graphs too
NationalBank – balances, transactions, pay bills etc. The web site works in MobileSafari but this is less fiddly.
Skype – chat, make cheap calls when on WIFI without the hassle of a headset.
mPass – your boarding pass for AirNZ domestic flights. No need to check in, just go to the gate.
Shazam – what’s that song? Miraculously good. And free.
Remote – control iTunes from anywhere in the house
X-Plane – impressive the graphical power in a phone
fring – does MSN, Yahoo!, AIM etc

Now you just shift it to the XT network and you’ll get faster than light-speed on your downloads. Or at least, that’s my experience!
