What to buy for Christmas?

Pondered by Nat over two years ago

I have 3 presents to buy (the fourth is bought and remains secret in the unlikely chance my little sis is reading this from her new home in Vietnam – My second Christmas EVER without her!)

I have zero ideas. I refuse to buy junk, I refuse to buy presents for the sake of buying presents and this year above every other, I want to get them all something that shows how much they mean to me and how grateful I am that through some trick of fate I was landed in this family.

Family
Dad, Sarah, Mum, Brooke and Me (Brooke will hate me for this photo)

Family member 1 – Older sister

25 year old female who seems to have an almost identical wardrobe to me these days (we like the same stuff, I’m sure I find it all first). She also has a massive mortgage and a dislike of my usual present buying philosophy (i.e I was thinking a worm farm this year which would go down like a tonne of bricks)

Family member 2 – Father

Seriously, who would have one? Can’t fathers be exempt from present buying? What do you buy them? He is an absolute authority on history, enjoys animated debates about politics and ethics and is currently enjoying golf. A self titled ‘bluey’ dad likes to differentiate himself from ‘greenies’ like me by his love of the ocean and everything in it.

Family member 3 – Mum

Only listed last because she is the least of my worries, my mum will love anything I get her. She wants a pillow, but when we went pillow testing, she only tested the cheapest pillows because she doesn’t want anyone spending money on her. She is a brilliant artist and her paintings flew off the walls when I hung them in the office, also a real estate mogul and interior decorator (though sadly not by trade).

Please help me. I’m totally stumped!!!

We are taking my hopelessly impractical car south this year and with no room for just about everything we have had to be creative with Christmas gifts.

    These include:

    1) For him: an annual membership to http://www.myfootballclub.co.uk: there is no boy alive who has not dreamt of owning and managing their own football club. They have an agreement in principle to buy a controlling stake in Ebbsfield United and only thirty five quid.

    2) For her: tickets to one of the many awesome events at the New Zealand Arts Festival (http://www.nzfestival.nzpost.co.nz/), there is a lot to see and do. Include a ticket for yourself and don’t be afraid to pay the extra for “A res seating.

    3) For the young: A Wellington Pheonix strip now with new sponsor Sony: good enough for Beckham – good enough for anyone.

    4) For the old: a blog: buy a relevant domain and set up a blog engine on it – a few lessons on Christmas day on how to use the CMS and they will be away, or at least bragging about their own website to the friends at the bridge club.

Four solid and novel gifts which all fit into the glove box.

How splashy you all look! That was a completely random word, but it was the one that popped into my head when I saw this picture. Look at all of you compared to the people sitting behind you in grungy clothes!
